"Confidence is a feeling, that comes from with in, and we all have it"

Let's Get Moving!!

We are mounted so let’s start moving. When we start to move, we need to use the same baby steps we have used all along.

I was told this by an old cowboy horse trainer. “Everything your horse does well or not well will be escalated when you add speed”. This is so true, and I didn’t actually know how true it was until I started competing in a speed event. I thought my horse turned well, and she did but when I had a gun in my hand and was trying to make a fast run all of a sudden, she didn’t turn as well. LOL.

The most important thing is to have your plan in place BEFORE you start riding. Give yourself a goal…..a SMALL goal. Let’s say your goal for the day is to work on your side pass. Notice I said WORK on, that is the goal, if I make the goal “do a side pass” this means that if my horse is struggling with understanding what I am asking and I don’t get the side pass “perfected” then that just makes me feel like I “couldn’t” do it and I didn’t complete my goal. If I don’t complete my goal then automatically my confidence goes down. Whereas when I say “My goal today is to work on improving the side pass”, this let’s me meet all the goals leading up to a beautiful side pass.

The key to gaining confidence in your riding is to continue setting small goals! If you put together all of your small goals you will one day reach your dream of being a confident rider, for YOU and your horse!!

I used to think that confidence meant that I was cocky or had a huge ego, but I realized and I know now that it is a feeling that comes from with in each person. The more time you spend with your horses when you are present and conscious of the energy that your body is feeling and what your mind is telling you the more confident you will become. Confidence doesn’t come from winning ribbons or buckles; confidence comes from working your butt off when no one is watching.

I will leave you with this thought today,

Confidence isn’t walking into an arena thinking you are better than everyone, it’s walking in not having to compare yourself to anyone at all!!
